Civil Rights Movement

One of the most important movements to develop in the l960's was the Civil Rights Movement. Even though things are far from perfect today, conditions for African Americans and other minorities are certainly better than they were in the past. Many people, black and white, risked their lives, families, and reputations to make these changes possible. Blacks now attend non-segregated schools, have equal opportunities in the work force, have equal voting rights, and can enter any public place without fear of being thrown out. There is still work to be done. However, the Civil Rights Movement accomplished one sweeping victory, the destruction of legal segregation in the United States.
