Constitutional Benefits
The original constitution, written in 1787, benefited white, educated men of wealth and property. A strong National government was created by the governing and financial elite to secure the nation and protect their wealth and property. This elite group got what they wanted by dominating the government and did what they ideologically felt was right for the people. The eleven years before the constitution, the United States was weakening due to the failure of the Articles
by state legislature. The Executive Branch includes the President, who is elected by members of the Electoral college; State legislature selects the electors. The Judicial Branch includes the highest power of authority, the Supreme Court. The members of the supreme court are nominated by the President, which in turn are confirmed by the Senate. "This systematic exclusion of participation in the process ensured that decision-making would remain in the hands of a priveged few" (Shultz 58).
