Daoism: The Religion

The philosophies that Daoism is based on are considered, by the Chinese, to have been a part of their culture since about 2500 B.C.E. Lao Tzu is considered to be the father of Daoism, but the concepts that Daoism is based on were already around for many years. Daoists, today, can be found all over the world, as with most religions. There are approximately 230 million people who claim to be Daoists, most of whom are in Taiwan. There are some communities in Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore as well. And of course there are small sects and individuals scattered throughout the world.
