Discuss the problems and assess the validity of the concept of inspiration in scripture

The Bible is considered by Christians to be a set of 'inspired' books; those which have been inspired by God in some way. This belief makes the Bible valued as a sacred text, a guide for life, God's words if you like. Inspiration of scripture then may only be a valid concept for those who believe in the 'Holy Ghost' and so for those who choose to read the Bible as a historical text alone, the concept is unnecessary and yet for Christians, it seems irrelevant how the Bible is inspired but only important that it is inspired.
