Early Civil right movement

Civil rights are freedoms and rights guaranteed to a member of a community, state, or nation. Freedoms of speech, of the press, of religion, and of fair and equal treatment are the basic civil rights. Through the work of the abolitionists before the war, civil rights water sheds were established during Reconstruction. The goals achieved in black rights in the 1960's could not have been reached without the foundation established the late 1800's and early 1900's provided.
