Cinema was first introduced to Japan in 1896 when the Kinetoscope, invented by Thomas Edison three years earlier, was imported to Kobe. The first public showing of a film was held on 25 November. While the United States continues to dominate the industry, Japan is able to keep its history and styles to produce unique films exclusive to Japan. The country has contributed immensely to the art of filmmaking, and will continue to do so for as long as this form of entertainment is popular.
