Electoral College The Electoral College is a method of indirectly selecting the President of the United States. It provided for a check on direct election by the people if they were to make a mistake. It is part of the elite theory of making sure that direct election did not select a poor candidate for President, if direct election split the vote and a poor candidate was elected by popular vote. …the Electoral College and people get to directly select our President. A major difference in this election would be that every vote counts in selection of the President. There is also a greater opportunity to run for President for different people. What I think the most important fact of this is that there is less emphasis on key states just to get the large amounts of Electoral votes, such as California compared to Rhode Island.
