Imagine you had a daughter who was in a horrible car accident. The only way she was able to stay alive was through being force - fed through a surgically implanted gastrostomy tube. She was oblivious to all her surroundings except reflexive responses to sound and possibly pain. Her brain was irreversibly degenerated and she was a spastic quadriplegic.
