Despite her failing body, Kahlo endeavored to maintain the old ways of gaiety, excitement and drama. Her last public appearance was at a demonstration protesting C.I.A. intervention in the overthrow of leftist President Jacobo Arbenz of Guatemala. She died seven days later on July 13, 1954, at the age of 47.
