…The history of corporations in the US is a very significant one. The American revolution came about as a direct result of the abusive power of such companies and the British Empire that backed them. Corporate libertarians are always citing Adam Smith to defend their ideology, but he attacked these merchant companies practices. In his book the Wealth of Nations he sees corporations as instruments for suppressing the beneficial competitive forces of the market. (Korten)
