Baroreceptor mechanisms are most important in controlling blood pressure on a short-term basis. They are sensitive to sudden changes in blood pressure, and they respond quickly. The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and atrial natriuretic hormone, are more important in the maintenance of blood pressure on a long-term basis.
