…are seven cervical vertebrae, twelve thoracic vertebrae, five lumbar vertebrae, and four cocygeal vertebrae that are fused into one bone known as the coccyx. The thoracic region refers to the entire chest. The skeletal portion contains the sternum, costal cartilage, ribs, and the bodies of the thoracic vertebrae. Enclosed and protected by the thoracic cage are the organs in the thoracic cavity. It also supports the bones of the upper limbs and the shoulder girdle.
