How World War Two changed Japan between 1945 and 1990

In August 1945 an exhausted and battle-weary Japan accepted the surrender terms of the Allied powers, and by imperial edict the people laid down their arms. Socially, the class system was dissolved to a very large extent, economically, the Zaibatsu organizations were likewise dissolved and there was a completely new political structure with a new and more democratic distribution of powers. This fact of the matter is that General Macarthur created a new Japan which touched most corners of Japanese society so yes, the role of leadership in Japan proved to be highly important.
