How did the Treaty of Versailles affect Germany?
Germany was greatly affected by the Treaty of Versailles. The Treaty took considerable amounts of territory and colonial possessions from Germany. The German military was also crushed by the treaty with so many restrictions that it was basically rendered useless. Germany also suffered tremendous economic effects from the Treaty, predominantly in the form of reparations. Due to the treaty of Versailles Germany lost approximately 13 per cent of its territory in Europe. This included 103 600 square kilometres
Germany's economy. Germany had to give up its natural resources, much of its machinery and an insurmountable amount of money. The policies of the treaty of Versailles hurt Germany badly. She lost much of the land for which she had fought hard to gain in building her empire. A military which had become the heart of all of Germany had been crushed. And the unpayable reparations would continue to plague Germany economically for many years.
