Impact of the Constitution and The Declaration of Independence: Past, Present, and Future The Federal Convention convened in the State House in Philadelphia on May 14, 1787, to revise the Articles of Confederation (Burns 19). This was the beginning of one of the most impressive, adaptable, and symbolic document ever written in human history. Before this, Thomas Jefferson drafted The Declaration of Independence. This happened between June 11 and June 28, 1776 (Mount 3). It was and still is the nation's most
government, but who we are and how we act as American citizens. We love and cherish the freedoms that we first implemented through the Declaration and later defined in the Constitution. As our definition of freedom changes, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence are able to redefine their meanings of the word and therefore change their purposes. This is what makes them documents that have and will continue to withstand the test of time.
