Traditionally, it has been oversimplified by the tele-visual media, which generally conforms to dominant cultural moral expectations and is often favours the adult perspective. Gender roles are challenged and reflect the adolescent struggle to identify themselves within their changing sexual roles. The sexualities of the characters are well developed, intricate and believable, challenging the show's relegated status of "low culture" drama. By not adhering to any one set of values, the composers have communicated the true complexities of adolescent sexuality.
