Issues in the Jacksonian Era

During the 1820's and 1830's, the federal government underwent many changes. The time of one party government ended with the formation of the Democratic Party. The Jacksonian Era had many political controversies and slogans, often criticized by the people and media, including the corrupt bargain of the Election of 1824, the Tariff of Abominations (1828), the nickname "King Andrew", and the "Bank Monster". …his actions as president was his fear of corruption in government. Jackson felt that the rich had too much control of the government. Jackson wanted to maintain the republican ideals upon which he believed the country was founded. Like Thomas Jefferson, Jackson felt the government should be small and not interfere with people's lives, which is why he hated policies like the American System and the National Bank. Jackson was the hero of the people.
