The origins of the Kennedy family are in Ireland. John Fitzgerald's grandgrandfather Patrick Kennedy emigrated to the USA in 1848. His grandson, JFK's father Joseph Kennedy, was a wealthy financier who later worked both as an assistant of president Franklin Roosevelt and as the Ambassador to Great Britain.
