EXEGETICAL PAPER Jeremiah prophesied in Judah in the year 626 B.C. This was about halfway through the reign of Josiah over Judah. …over the known world. Rulers were in quest of attaining land and power, and Judah was falling farther and farther away from the Lord. Something had to be done. Jeremiah warned them time and time again, but nobody listened. Eventually, the Lord spoke through Jeremiah saying that it was too late, and that their land was going to be destroyed because of their unfaithfulness and sin. In 586 B.C., Jerusalem was captured by the Babylonians.
