Ballistic body armor of Kevlar brand fibers is not designed to protect the wearer from high velocity rifled threats. These higher velocities require heavier tactical armor. Typically these special purpose garments have ceramics or steel inserts that are backed with Kevlar to provide a protection greater than Level IIIA.
