The civil war in england had caused serious conclusions as to the natural course of english history. Up till then, monarchy had managed to establish a thorough dominance over the english public. England had adopted a system of ruling based upon authority of one ruler granted with absolute power. …with that. To conclude, milton's and butler's political and social attitudes towards restoration of monarchy are completely different. Milton as a puritan was totally against monarchy and kingdom. And so he, in his paradise lost, presents all kings and sultans as a satan. But on the other hand, Butler as a man who had seen all controversies between puritans and anglicans and who lived in a very repressive regime celebrates the monarchy and anglican church.
