Polygamy: Trouble in Colorado City

Colorado City-Hildale (more commonly known as Colorado City), an isolated town straddling the Arizona-Utah border, has been home to a vigilant Mormon polygamist sect for approximately eighty-five years. Polygamy, also called plural marriage, is the practice of having more than one spouse at one time. In Colorado City, men are the ones taking multiple wives. …Feeling sympathy for many of the wives, who are able to leave but continue to support this revolting behavior, seems impossible. These women are in control of their own destiny. The children, who are innocent and are forced to live in a tainted environment placed upon them by their parents, are the ones who deserve sympathy. It is hopeful that maybe some day polygamy will dissolve into history along with much of America's dark past.
