Slavery as a cause for the Civil War

When Lincoln was president, seven states had seceded from the Union to become the Confederate States of America. They took control of all forts and other government property in these areas, but two they were not able to immediately acquire--Fort Sumter in South Carolina and Fort Pickens in Florida. John J. …argue that the failure of the party systems followed by the rise of the Republican system created more conflicts than agreements. The Civil War was necessary to settle the countless conflicts between the North and the South. The side that did not benefit the most would conveniently forget any compromise drawn up at that point in time. The only solution would be a war so that the end result would actually be a permanent policy.
