Sport is not, and can never be a profession.

A profession is commonly known as an occupation, such as law, medicine, or engineering, that requires considerable training and specialized study. Of course, sport can also fall under this definition. Sport falls under the big umbrella of this definition and I strongly feel that sport can be considered a profession, but to many others, it may not be. …profession but more like a hobby which they are passionate about. If sport is being played solely because of the paychecks and not because of a passion and enjoyment for a game, it will be seen as a job, an occupation, a profession. The world of sports is far from simply playing a game and making the money. I believe the key for one to determine whether sport is indeed a profession would be passion.
