The American Revolution, an unified movement of colonial forces fighting against the imperial British
The American Revolution has been traditionally studied as a single, unified movement of colonial forces fighting against the imperial British. As well as this descriptphilosophy, mathematics, government and language ion makes for a nice grade school story, it is important to understand that in the course of several years that composed the latter half of the eighteenth century, America underwent two revolutions. These two revolutions were dramatically different, yet uniquley simmilar. The primary revolution, which
rejected all provisions of the old world order and replaced it with a young, radical one. I believe John Adams most accurately commented in 1818 when he said, "The Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of th epeople, a change in their religious sentinents, of their duties and obligations...This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentinetns and affections of the people was the real American Revolution."4
