The Antebellum period. Speaks of what was happening in pre-Civil War time, reasons for the war, and differences between the Northern, and Southern states

…this to encourage westward expansion of slavery, and expand the cotton farming by replacing worn out land. The North wanted high prices of land, and they discouraged westward migration. The next issue was the tariffs. The south wanted low tariffs, to protect manufactured goods against foreign goods. Tensions grew amogst the two and the war broke out in 1861. That is the end of the antebellum time, and we are moving on to the Civil War.
