…publicity. Finally, on Dec. 23, Patton begins a counterattack to the south and makes substantial progress. Dec. 24 was a major turning point. Dec. 25, 400 U.S. soldiers break into small groups and sneak throught enemy lines. German forces are still very strong and fight hard against Allied counterattacks, but their master paln was ruined. They could nerver reach Antwerp, so they retreated. 30,000 Germans are killed, 30,000 P.O.W.s, 40.000 injured. It was a personal defeat for Hitler.
