The Causes of the American Revolution
American Revolution which was from 1775-83, was a struggle by which the Thirteen Colonies on the Atlantic seaboard of North America won independence from Great Britain and became the United States. It is also called the American War of Independence. In 1763, after the French and Indian War, the British King, George III, issued a Royal Proclamation. This proclamation stated that no more settlers were to go on Indian land west of the Appalachian Mountains and
declare independence. They were divided. Soon, small battles broke out between the rebellious colonists and the British, beginning the War for American Independence. The War for American Independence was caused because the colonist's views and beliefs were almost the exact opposites of that of the British government. As the colonies began to feel more independent from their mother country while also being heavily taxed and regulated, something had to give. War may have been inevitable.
