"The Dead" film and text contrast

James Joyce's "The Dead" is one of the most famous and well written short stories in literary history. Hidden within the plot of the story is a shocking character analyzation that Joyce has intricately weaved into his story. In fact, the story was so spectacular that John Houston, a famous director, took the book and turned it into a movie. …or Aunt Julia singing, who, by the way, also sounded very different in the film compared to how they described her in the short story. In conclusion, the film and the original short story were very, very different from each other even though they both revolved around the same idea. There was more subtle differences between Joyce's version of The Dead and Houston's version, but these differences listed here are the greatest ones by far.
