The French Revolution Since the days of Louis XIV, France had been the most populous, riches and most powerful country in Western Europe. France set European trends in literature, fashion, the arts, and politics. The French Revolution (1789-1799) violently transformed France from a monarch state with a rigid social class system into a modern nation in which the social structure was loosened and power passed increasingly to the middle classes. …the rest of Europe but also caused revolutions in Italy, Germany, Austria, and Hungary. It also gave positive and Enlightened ideas to other countries and the modern countries of today. Besides the French Revolution, the American Revolution also influenced the world causing it to make other countries open their eyes to independence. The U.S. is like this today because of both Revolutions and the spread of ideas that consisted of Enlightenment, democratic, and Revolutionary.
