The Meaning of Liberty: A Comparison of Patrick Henry's Personal Beliefs

To Patrick Henry, and to most colonists (specifically, those who were in agreement with him), liberty was a very fair and balanced concept. His speech was written and delivered after, and a great deal because of, the onslaught of British taxes, laws, and injustices in the colonies. They are raised knowing what they can and can not do by the rest of their culture, and that infringes on what liberties they could have had without wrong or right being burned into their mind. The remaining liberty is important, and is as vital as it was in the day of Patrick Henry, but it is not true liberty. That only exists in fairy tales.
