…April 20th, the president signed the resolution for war. The war with Spain was needless because there was no great American interest. We did not even recognize the very rebel government that we supported against Spain after the war. The war made the rest of the world realize that America was becoming a player on the international level. The desire for empire, as well as the sympathetic feelings towards the downtrodden fueled this pointless war
