Stamp Act Protest After the French and Indian war, Britain, although victorious, was left with a debt of 140 million pounds. The British believed that the colonists should share the burden of sustaining the British troops in the colonies. The colonists were then enforced with harsh tariffs such as the well known Stamp Act. However, the protest of the colonist was such that the act was repealed and thus the American Revolution was soon under way. …

Colonial businessmen agreed to stop importing British goods until the act was abolished. Soon, refusal to use the stamps on business papers became common. In 1766 the British parliament did away with the Stamp Act which has been said to be considered as one of the immediate causes of the American Revolution.
