The War of 1812, also known as the "forgotten war," was a struggle to maintain American Independence from Great Britain. The war lasted for more than two years, and while it ended much like it started, in stalemate; it was in fact a war that once and for all confirmed American Independence. British rule and impressment. The growing national pride and commercial ambitions of the Untied States gradually created serious conflict with Great Britain. The failure of the British to negotiate with America would eventually lead to another war. The growing economy of America was becoming prosperous and Great Britain was a threat to their future of trading. The American peoples Identity and Independence were being sought and Great Britain needed to get out of the picture.
