African Americans have suffered and struggled throughout their history due to a variation of factors. One main factor involved in causing this is due to the racial prejudice and hate crimes perpetrated against them. In the United States, there have been movements and laws to protect these individuals from such acts of hatred; but injustice continues today as it has in past years. In order for racial attitudes to change, individuals need to be educated about the various ethnic and racial components in American society and support programs that raise awareness of hate. Individuals need to support federal anti-discrimination laws, statutes, and regulations that ensure full legal protection against discrimination and hate-motivated violence. Until individuals undertake this task, hate crimes, of the nature previously described, will continue to take place.
