The fall of Mussolini in 1943

From his coming to power in 1922 Mussolini had one clear policy that would play a major part in how he ruled Italy for the next twenty one years. Mussolini was then subdued prematurely into a war by taking advantage of Hitler's apparent near victory in 1940. However, Mussolini had completely misjudged the eventual outcome of the conflict and the effectiveness of his own economy and suffered military defeat that eventually resulted in his removal from power.
