In Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, Okonkwo was indeed very much an individual, with a personality unlike most of his fellow Igbomen. The things that he said and the actions that he took in the situations that he encountered throughout his life played an important role in how things fell apart for him. Some people would describe Okonkwo as being extraordinary, strong, intelligent, motivated, and brave. Others might think he was cruel, unjust, irrational, …

…his family. So he decided to take that matter by his own hand, and he did. He also did it because he had no fear. And once again he proved by taking his own life, that he had not fear, no fear of the gods, and no fear of death. He did not fear the white people either; he just would not let the white people win by giving a different end to the story.
