Pearl Comfort Sydenstricker, who later became known as Pearl S. Buck after she married, was born on June 26, 1892, in Hillsboro, West Virginia. She went on to live most of her life in China where she grew up seeing the hardships the country faced. A lot of Buck's novels, stories, poetry, drama, and children's literature were based on China and what she learned from living there. Her writings became very popular and she became the first
many more novels and books of non-fiction. Her great works won her the Nobel Prize in literature and made her one of the most popular writers. She died at 80 years old in Danby, Vermont on March 6, 1973. Pearl had published over 70 books, novels, stories, biographies, poetry, drama, children's literature, and translations from the Chinese. During her career as an author, which spanned 40 years, she spent time writing about the country she grew up in and knew.
