This piece is regarding a class discussion in regards to the African American Sermonic Tradition. It is simply my point of view on it.

…for the overall society. Likewise, the Spirituals, although sung, they were songs to praise and worship God and also thank him/her for a better life, meanwhile also asking for help. The only difference amongst the two is that while the time of slavery, Africans were unable to worship God in the way they do now, because they would be punished for it. Even then however, they did not stop believing and worshiping him/her.
