Today over 24 million Americans play volleyball (based on sporting goods sales in different demographics) and over 800 million worldwide play at least once a week. Interestingly, more females than males play the sport, and most of the Americans who enjoy it are in Pennsylvania. These statistics are amazing considering the facts that volleyball began thousands of miles away (on the opposite coast) as an exercise for males.
