…and the individual molecules barely move atall. They just vibrate in their fixed positions. Because the H-bonds have formed between each molecule, the molecules are actually further away from each other than they were in the liquid form (a rare property of any substance). This means that the solid form of water is actually less dense than the liquid. This solid state of water will float on the liquid form. It is known as ice.
