…an American physicist named Joseph Henry. In 1825 William Sturgen showed that an iron core strengthens a magnetic field. Electro magnets are only temporary because they only work as long as an electrical current flows through it. When you wrap the wire around the core or nail and attach it to a battery it conducts the current and sends it through the nail creating a magnetic field. This was discovered in 1820 by Danish Physicist Hans Orested.
