Women and Early American Economy
Women's lives changed significantly during and after the American Revolution. During this time in history women were only recognized for housekeeping and child rearing. But the war meant women had to take charge during the absence and after the deaths of husbands and fathers. The women of early America were greatly affected by the concept of a household economy, their importance in the business world, and the disadvantages of a capitalist system. Although documentation of
females who appeared in that world were engaging in unnatural relations. The mere words "working women" was considered an oxymoron. The female gender, with their new found freedoms, would never give up the fight for equality in the workforce. Women did remain in the workforce, proving their capabilities and self reliance, but it was actually more than a century in the future before they were ever recognized for their contributions to the business world.
