Y2K Defininitions, Problems and Solutions

Y2K is shorthand for the potential of computer operating systems, software programs and microchips to malfunction on January 1, 2000. Without being repaired or replaced, many of these information technology components may misread the century change as 1900 instead of 2000. Y2K is a major issue for management because if the computers are unable to interpret the correct date it could mean major confusion. If object oriented programming was used extensively the Y2K problem would be much easier to deal with. Changes in object oriented programming code can be made quickly and inexpensively. There would still be problems with embedded chips and the devises that carry them, but with object oriented code the problem is much smaller.
