…Middle class heroes started to appear at the beginning of the nineteenth century, because of the growth modern scientific philosophies. Modern science preached equality, which meant a middle class person's death was just as important as a noble's death. Also, the merchant class started to develop. This class wanted to see more of its own kind pictured on stage. Middle class heroes more effectively related to the general populace than a noble class hero did.
