Black Robe
The Black Robe of Colonialism "Black Robe", a story written by novelist Brian Moore, is a film some say is a "story that preludes to nothing", however, I believe that the film did an excellent job of portraying colonialism, racism, and ethnocentrism. Throughout the whole film, constant reminders of the Europeans efforts to persuade everyone to follow their own beliefs and views of religion were being laid out as the Jesuit priests tried to convince
about Ethnocentrism and Colonialism and the problems that followed as a French missionary encountered a different lifestyle. Through contact and listening to his friend Daniel, he was able to see that their ways of life were valid as well. This movie did a good job of displaying the harsh realities of life during a time of a "culture clash." The similarities to today make this story a worthwhile movie to take home and learn from.
