…be 'whipped and crushed' because of what she did. The Wife of Bath and Tess D'Urberville are almost exactly opposite and represent both sides of the qualities that women should have. However, these qualities must not be so extreme and should combine to include them all equally. This way the woman can be fair to both herself and her husband. (Besides, if a woman was split in half like that- which half would you marry?!)
