Causes of the civil war - political or social?

From the establishment of America, conflicting social and political views have separated the north and south into two very different cultures. While most southern states became dependent on slavery, northern states industrialized and modernized. They also formed very different opinions on westward expansion and slavery. …were not for the Kansas-Nebraska Act. The Dred Scott decision would not have been made if it weren't for his moving west. The start of the civil war can be attributed to two issues acting together: Westward expansion and slavery. Westward expansion caused political problems which in turn established adamant views on slavery from both sides. For some, it strengthened their belief in it. To others, it made them realize how morally wrong it was.
