Changes in Bilbo Baggins during the Hobbit

…first showed signs of growth when he defeated Gollum in a game of riddles. Another key change in his character occurred when he fought the spiders and saved the dwarves. The biggest change was when Bilbo proved to the dwarves that he was a thief. Bilbo Baggins started off in the book as a regular old hobbit. After the many tasks he had faced where over he had changed into a brave and courageous individual.
