Basil was somewhat angry because Dorian began to criticize his painting and wanted to destroy it, and this was all because of what Lord Henry had said to him earlier. I think Basil is the smartest character we met so far. He is very aware of what's going on and is very smart with his choices(who should be friends with who, what he believes in) and is a strong character.
